About the role
Step into a leading national commercial law firm where you’ll take ownership of a diverse range of matters for key Commonwealth Government agencies, including the Department of Home Affairs. You will manage files end-to-end, develop litigation strategies, draft submissions and court documents, prepare evidence, appear in the AAT and Federal Circuit Court, and instruct Counsel.
Working closely with two Partners and senior lawyers, you’ll gain direct client exposure, contribute to impactful public-sector outcomes, and receive strong mentorship and support as you further develop your expertise in high-level administrative law.

Duties
In this role you will:
- Lead a caseload of merits and judicial review matters for Commonwealth agencies, including the Department of Home Affairs, before Federal Courts and the Administrative Review Tribunal.
- Manage the day-to-day carriage of files, ensuring matters progress efficiently and strategically.
- Develop prospects advice and tailored litigation strategies for complex administrative law disputes.
- Prepare evidence, draft submissions, and all required Court and Tribunal documentation.
- Advocate in the Administrative Review Tribunal and Federal Circuit Court.
- Instruct Counsel.
Ideally, you will have:
- At least 5 years’ experience at a Senior Associate or Special Counsel level in public and administrative law with a strong litigation background.
- Genuine enthusiasm in appearing before the Courts and Tribunal as a solicitor advocate.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Highly developed drafting and advisory skills , with meticulous attention to detail.
- Motivation to advance your career within a dynamic private practice environment.
