  • About the opportunity
    An excellent opportunity exists for a Legal Counsel to join the in-house legal team of a highly regarded Australian-operated insurance company. Reporting to the Head of Legal and Company Secretary, you will assist with the management of legal matters across the business while ensuring regulatory obligations are met.

    As part of the Risk & Governance department, you will work closely with the wider legal team and collaborate with internal stakeholders to support the effective operation of the legal function.

    Key responsibilities
    In this role you will:
    • Work closely with the Head of Legal and Company Secretary, together with the wider Risk & Governance team.
    • Advise business units and senior management on matters including AFS licensing requirements, legal documentation, and legislative and regulatory compliance requirements.
    • Draft and prepare correspondence, submissions, papers and terms of new business contracts with third parties and suppliers.
    • Liaise with auditors, lawyers, regulators, company representatives and relevant bodies including APRA, ASIC, AFCA and OIAC.
    • Contribute to legal projects, knowledge management initiatives and the continuous improvement of workflows and the efficiency of the Legal Department.
    Skills & experience
    To be successful, you will have:
    • 2 to 4 years' PAE with broad experience in financial services law and/or insurance law gained either in-house or in private practice.
    • A solid understanding of financial services laws, including Corporations, Australian Consumer and Insurance law.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to listen, understand issues and provide clear guidance and advice.
    • Strong attention to detail together with initiative in identifying and solving problems.
    Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and balance competing priorities.
